And Time Rolls On
2017 is here! I find it so hard to believe that 2016 passed so fast. We were so busy that we didn't notice that it was ticking away like it was. I guess we all say that when one year passes and the next begins. I guess people have been saying that since the invention of the calendar. Time stops for noone, that's for sure. Today is ticking away as we invest our time in this blog, either reading it, or writing it. Looking back, 2016 was a great year. Good things happened, and some sad things happened. As I often say, that is what life is all about. We can't expect everything to be pleasant all the time, yet we act like that is exactly what we expect.
So what does 2017 have in store for us? Pleasant things, or not so pleasant? The year stretches before us like a personal blank canvas, waiting to be filled by the paint and style of our lives. I don't know what the future holds, that's for sure. I just hope that I can use my time wisely and not fritter it away. Don't you think that word "fritter" a neat one? ha. my mother used that word and I always found it quirky and funny, but it seemed to describe exactly what it was always directed at. I hope that each day of 2017 can be filled with something positive, and that I can accomplish something, no matter how small it might be.
we welcomed in the New Year with Sarah and Jeremy. It was hard for Vern and me to stay awake until the ball fell, but we managed. We yawned a lot, but were able to keep our eyes open for the most part. Well, me at least, more so than Vern. He actually did doze on the couch for just a few minutes. We played Yatzee and ate deli sandwiches and shrimp with cocktail sauce first though. We actually toasted in the new year twice; once as New York welcomed it in and then again for our own time zone...then all of a sudden, it was 2017! Just like God planned it!
Just before Christmas I completed a quilt for a friend at church who isn't able to come to services any more. She goes for dialysis 3 days a week for 4 hours each time. She said she sometimes gets cold so I thought a lap quilt might be something she could use. I had some of the church members each sign a block and then I put them into a quilt. She may not use it, because she has others who love her and have made her crocheted blankets, which are always so nice, and light weight also. she knows we are thinking of her and it's always good to know that we haven't been forgotten. She is 83 years old.
I started putting the Christmas tree decorations away but I haven't finished the job. It's always so much more fun to get them out than it is to put them away. ha. It's been too cold to get outside and take the outside lights down, but we did disconnect them so they aren't shining through half the night anymore. I do love seeing all the Christmas lights though. They just seem to give me a lift. I wonder if others feel the same way about it.
I suppose they do or they wouldn't put them up.
We had Christmas here for the family get together. All the kids, except for one (Brian) were here. He was here last year but was not able to come this year. He and his family were greatly missed. I love the family time together! I love being with the all the kids and the grandchildren and the grandchildren are growing up so fast.
